BARISHAL, July 2, 2026(BSS) - A court here today awarded capital punishment to a person for raping a teenage girl in Barishal and fined Taka one lakh to the convict.

The Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Ashraf Uddin today announced the verdict in a crowded court room convicting one Alamgir Shikdar for raping the girl. 

The court also fined Taka one lakh to Alamgir Shikdar and told the district administration to take the responsibility of the child born following the rape.

Alamgir Shikdar is the son of late Abdur Rashid Shikdar of East Keshabkathi village under Uzirpur upazila of the district.

AKM Shamsul Haque, state counselor of the case said that the victim, a class nine student of a local madrasha and the convict are the residents of the same area and the victim used to go to Alamgir’s house. On March 3 in 2023, Alamgir took the victim to his house from a pond, when she went there for bathing, and raped her later. 

Earlier, he also raped the girl for several time and at one stage the girl became pregnant. The baby of the girl is now three-years-old. 

On May 21 in 2023, father of the victim, filed a case with Uzirpur Thana and police on May 31 in 2024 submitted the charge sheet of the case accusing Alamgir Shikdar to the court. 

The court announced the judgement after examining the depositions of six prosecution witnesses of the case. 

The state counselor also said that the responsibility of the victim and her baby has been given to the district administration by the court.
