DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced one Masum Miah alias Kalu to life imprisonment and fined him Taka 10,000 in a case filed over the murder of grocery shop owner Abdul Quddus in the capital’s Bongshal area in 2016.
Judge Md Sadekin Habib Bappi of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-6 pronounced the verdict, acquitting another accused, Eunus Miah, as the charges brought against him could not be proved, public prosecutor Habibur Rahman told BSS.
According to the case documents, a group of muggers intercepted Abdul Quddus in the early hours of September 10, 2016, in the Siddiqbazar area of Bongshal and attempted to snatch his belongings. When Quddus resisted, the muggers repeatedly stabbed him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Victim’s cousin Md Kamal Hossain filed the case with Bongshal Police Station. Police on November 10, 2016, filed a charge sheet against two. The court on March 7, 2017, framed charges against the duo and examined 15 out of a total 18 prosecution witnesses on different hearing dates.
