DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Imam Hossain to life imprisonment and fined him Taka one lakh in a case lodged for abducting a child from Khejurbagh area in Keraniganj in 2014.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka 4th Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced the judgment this noon.

According to the case documents, the seven-year-old girl was playing with her friends in front of Nurbagh High School in the Khejurbagh area on October 15, 2014. At around 11am, Imam Hossain and three to four others allegedly lured the child to the Nariklbagh Kashbon area. When the child began screaming, local people rushed to the spot and rescued her. They also managed to apprehend Imam Hossain at the scene.

The child's father filed the case with South Keraniganj Police Station on October 16. Police on November 30, 2014, filed a charge sheet against Imam Hossain. The court later indicted him, commencing the trial officially.

The tribunal today came up with the judgment after examining four witnesses on different hearing dates.
