70pc Boro paddy harvested in haor regions

DHAKA, April 24, 2023 (BSS) - About 70 per cent of Boro paddy in haor areas of the country have so far been harvested.
 
"About 55 per cent of Boro paddy have so far been harvested in Sylhet, 70 per cent in Moulivibazar, 67 per cent in Habiganj, 73 per cent in Sunamganj, 58 per cent in Kishoreganj, 77 per cent in Netrokona and 67 per cent of paddy was harvest in Brahmanbaria," said an agriculture ministry press release here today.

The Boro paddy was cultivated on 452,000 hectares of land in seven haor districts this year while the paddy was cultivated on a total of 953,000 hectares of land, including the haor areas and the highland outside of the haors, the release said, adding that the production target is 40 lakh tonnes of rice this year. 

Whiling launching paddy harvest in a Sunamganj haor ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque said if there is no natural disaster and paddy is harvested on time, there will be record production of Boro this year.

Noting that around 1,000 combined paddy harvesters were working only in Sunamganj, he hoped that there will be no problem in paddy harvesting this year.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Boro paddy was cultivated on 50 lakh hectares of land across the country this year while the production target is 2.15 crore metric tonnes of rice. 
Boro paddy was cultivated on 48.14 lakh hectares of land in the last fiscal year 2021-22 while 2.02 crore tonnes of rice were produced.
