EC monitoring GCC polls with 4,435 CCTV cameras

DHAKA, May 25, 2023 (BSS)-The Election Commission (EC) is observing the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) elections through 4,435 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as the voting for the GCC begins from 8am this morning.

Election Commissioners Brigadier General (retd) Ahsan Habib Khan, M Alamgir, Rasheda Sultana and Anisur Rahman are closely monitoring the GCC elections from the Nirbachan Bhaban control room at city's Agargaon.

A total of 4,435 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the GCC elections -along with all the polling centers are being monitored with 466 CCTV cameras and displaying on 18 digital display boards set up at the EC, said an official release.

Earlier, the by-polls of Rangpur City Corporation(RCC), Cumilla City Corporation (CCC), Jenaidah municipality and Gaibandha-5 constituency were also monitored through the CCTV cameras.

Eight Mayoral candidates, seventy-nine in reserved councilor posts and 246 candidates are also contesting in councilor posts in the GCC elections.

Of these Mayoral candidates, Advocate M Azmat Ullah Khan is contesting from the ruling Awami League with symbolof boat, Jatiya Party candidate MM Niaz Uddin contesting with plough, Atiqul Islam is contesting from Gano front with symbol of fish, Gazi Ataur Rahman from Islami Andolon Bangladesh and Mohammad Raju Ahamed from Zaker Party.
 
Besides, Zayeda Khatun, M Harun-or Rashid and Sarker Shahnur Islam are also being participated in the GCC polls as the independent candidates.
