DHAKA, June 6, 2023 (BSS) - Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP is constantly spreading slander and defamation against the government by spending millions of dollars.
In a statement, he said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is talking perplexed as usual after realizing that the US did not impose sanction on Bangladesh.
"Spending millions of dollars, they (BNP leaders) are now constantly spreading slander and defamation against the government", he said. They are now trying to undermine Bangladesh and its people before the world, he added.
The AL general secretary said undermining the freedom and sovereignty, gained at the cost of the lives of three million martyrs, the BNP leaders are lobbying for their foreign masters and carrying out anti-state plots to gain their nefarious political interest.
"They (BNP leaders) have no faith and trust in the country's people and they are only begging compassion to their foreign masters, ignoring the country's constitution, democracy, elections and the people's mandate," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the ruling AL and the government are not worried about the new visa policy of the US because "We are always respectful to constitution, democracy, human rights and the rule of law".
If the US applies its visa policy properly, there is a reason for BNP leaders and workers to be worried, he said.
"Because, they (BNP) are impeding democratic process and electoral procedures time and again, and trying to create constitutional political standstill through terrorism in the name of resistance of election," the AL general secretary said.
He said BNP is trying to establish a myth claiming killer and military dictator Ziaur Rahman as the founder of the country's multi-party democracy through falsehood and propaganda. In fact, he said, Ziaur Rahman destroyed the country's democracy and constitution.
By forming a political parity assembling so-called pro-Pakistani politicians and war criminals through government intelligent agencies, Zia brought pro-Pakistani people in power, the road transport and bridges minister said.
From the state programmes and media, Zia sent the slogan of the Liberation War "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu" into exile, he added.
Quader said ignoring the spirit of the Liberation War, Zia introduced the politics of Pakistani philosophy in the country and indirectly banned the politics of the Awami League by forcefully closing down the AL offices for a long.
He said the anti-liberation forces will never surrender to the present government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and that is why all should get united to resist them.
