Avoiding success stories is ‘intellectual offence’- Hasan

DHAKA, June 19, 2023 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today criticized the people who are reluctant to recognize the positive and success stories of the government, terming it a ‘intellectual offence’.

“Some of our people cannot find our development and they are reluctant to recognize the success stories. Moreover they enjoy criticism,” he said while addressing a roundtable meeting at an auditorium of Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) organized the meeting titled “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 initiatives: A milestone of Bangladesh’s journey towards development.”

Hasan said there must be criticism as we are living in a multiclass society. But there must have focus on the real scenario of progress and positive changes of people and society, he added.

Urging the journalists to publish the success stories of the nation, the minister said there is no government across the globe which can claim performing cent percent accurately. There will be mistake when anyone performs, he added.

“There should have criticism and efforts to rectify the mistakes as well in a democratic society to take it forward,” he added.

Hasan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina doesn’t believe in ‘cosmetic development’. She believes in sustainable development through long-term planning.

He said long-term, subject and issue based planning are needed for the sustainable development. In view of this the prime minister has designed the ten special initiatives for real development of the country.

The minister said Bangladesh’s position is third in the globe in rice and fresh water fish production, fourth in vegetable and seventh in potato. It has been possible due to proper planning of Sheikh Hasina.

Hasan hoped that the journalists will focus on the Delta Plan-2100, government’s initiative to build 100 economic zones across the country, increasing role of industrial sector to GDP growth, electricity and internet coverage and improvement of living standard of the rural people.

Managing Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Anisur Rahman presided over the meeting. BSS Deputy News Editor and BFUJ president Omar Faruque addressed it as the key speaker while focal point and BSS special correspondent Mahfuza Jasmine conducted the programme.

President of Jatiya Press Club Farida Yesmin, Director General of Power Cell of Power Division Mohammad Hossain and Joint Secretary of Ashrayan Project Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan, among others, addressed the meeting as special guests.

Besides, A2I project analyst Mohammad Salahuddin, Community Based Health Care programme manager Dr Asif Iqbal, BSS chief news editor (Bangla service) Ruhul Ghani Jyoti, city editor Madhusudan Mondal, BFUJ treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, women entrepreneurs Fahmida Khan and Akhi Siddiqua, mass media representatives Kazi Rafique, Mainul Alam, Ummul Wara Sweety, Raju Ahmed, Mohsinul Karim Lebu, Rabeya Baby and Mariam Moni Sejuty, among others, took part in the discussion.
