Four Jashore Razakars to walk gallows for 1971 crimes

DHAKA, June 25, 2023 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today convicted and sentenced four Razakars from Bagharpara, Jashore, to death in a crimes against humanity case.

A three-judge panel of the tribunal headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam pronounced the judgment this morning in presence of convict Md Amzad Hossain Mollah. The other three convicts- Md Ohab Mollah, Md Mahatab Biswas and Md Fasiar Rahman Mollah are yet to be arrested and were tried in absentia.

The three judges read out the 169-page judgment part by part, with the chairman reading out the sentencing portion.

The first tribunal on June 21 had set today to pronounce the judgment.

Senior prosecutor Haider Ali, prosecutor Md Sahidur Rahman and Rezia Sultana Chaman took part in the hearing for the state, while advocate Gazi MH Tamim and advocate Abdus Sattar Palowan argued for the accused as the state appointed counsels.

The investigation agency of the ICT launched its probe against the accused on April 4, 2016 and concluded on April 16, 2018.

The ICT-1 on July 29 in 2019, framed four charges of crimes against humanity including murder, torture, abduction and confinement, against the accused.
