National Mourning Day observed in missions abroad

DHAKA, Aug 16, 2023 (BSS) - The National Mourning Day and 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were observed in the Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner with due solemnity.

Permanent mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York, Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York, Bangladesh High Commissions in New Delhi (India), Canberra (Australia), Sri Lanka and Ottawa (Canada), Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Mumbai (India), Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen (Denmark), Embassy of Bangladesh in Lisbon (Portugal), Consulate General of Bangladesh in Istanbul (Turkey), Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin (Germany), Bangladesh Embassy in Cairo (Egypt) and Bangladesh Embassy in Brussels (Belgium) arranged special programmes aiming to pay glowing tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The programmes included wearing of black badges by the members of staff of the mission, hoisting of the national flag at half-mast, reading out the messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, placing wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu, observing one-minute silence to pay homage to Bangabandhu, holding discussions, screening documentary on Bangabandhu, blood donation, charity programmes, offering special prayers, milad-mahfil and doa-munajat.

The National Mourning Day was observed in Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of his 48th martyrdom anniversary.

The Mourning Day's programmes included hoisting national flag at half-mast, doa mahfil, reading out of messages, discussion, and screening of a documentary on life and work of Bangabandhu.

A one-minute silence was observed in memory of the departed souls while special prayer was offered seeking salvation of the departed souls.

The National Mourning Day and the 48th death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were observed at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi with deep mourning, respect and due dignity.


Md Mostafizur Rahman, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, hoisted the national flag at half mast, on the embassy premises in the morning and started the day-long program by placing wreaths on the portrait of the Father of the Nation.


A discussion program was organized in the morning to mark the day.
At the beginning, a minute's silence was observed to pay respect to Bangabandhu and the martyred members of his family.


Messages given by the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read out on the occasion.

Brigadier General Md Abul Kalam Azad spoke on the occasion. A documentary on Bangabandhu was screened and an open discussion was held on the life and work of the Father of the Nation.


In his speech, High Commissioner Rahman respectfully recalled Bangabandhu's farsighted leadership and all struggles that took place on the way to the establishment of independent-sovereign Bangladesh.

 

In the evening, a special discussion program titled 'Bangabandhu: Pioneer of Human Rights and Freedom' was organized.


At the beginning, High Commissioner Rahman gave an opening speech by highlighting the working life of Bangabandhu.

 
On the occasion of the day, a special exhibition was also organized with some notable photographs of Bangabandhu's eventful life.


Finally, special a prayer was offered for eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and his martyred family members.


Ambassadors and diplomats of various countries, dignitaries of the host country, journalists, mission officers and employees and expatriate Bangladeshis attended these events.
 

The National Mourning Day and the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation was observed with due dignity and solemnity yesterday at the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Mumbai (India).

The programmes included offering wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation, holding special discussion, screening of documentary on Bangabandhu, distributing special food to the needy and orphans, offering special prayers and arranging doa-mahfil.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai Chiranjib Sarker officially started the day-long program by lowering the national flag to half-mast.

Later, a wreath was placed on the portrait of the Father of the Nation on the premise.

In a programme arranged by Permanent mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York yesterday, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations, New York, said there is no choice but to turn the grief of losing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman into strength to make 'Sonar Bangla' as dreamt by Bangabandhu under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
