DHAKA, Sept 21, 2023 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today called upon the journalists to present true history of Liberation War and nation's struggle for independence before the new generation.
"Media plays a significant role in upholding Liberation War spirit. Reporting on Liberation War is essential to let the new generation know the true history of independence," she said.
The Speaker was addressing as the chief guest the Bazlur Rahman Smriti Padak-2022 Awarding ceremony at Liberation War Museum Seminar Room in the capital.
Jury Board Chairman and Dhaka University former Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the function while Liberation War Museum Trustee Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, Jury Board members Nawazish Ali Khan and ASM Samsul Arefin and Liberation War Museum Trustee Sarwar Ali also spoke.
Shirin Sharmin said Daily Sangbad late editor Bazlur Rahman was one of the organizers of Liberation War, who edited esteemed newspaper 'Muktijuddho' during the Liberation War.
As an honest and courageous journalist, Bazlur Rahman worked for establishing a repression-free society never stopped his writing even during any extreme hostile situation, she said.
The Speaker urged the journalists to take lesson from life and work of journalist Bazlur Rahman to present true and objective information.
Noting that many invaluable information remain undiscovered across the country, she called upon the journalists to find out unknown history of the Liberation War remain across the country undiscovered.
Daily Star reporter Amirul Rajib and Dainik Samakal special correspondent Rajib Noor jointly won best reporting award 2022 in print media category while Jamuna Television reporter Habib Rahman received the award in electronic media category.
Awami League Presidium Member and Deputy Leader in the House Begum Matia Chowdhury and Washika Ayesha Khan, MP, were present in the programme.
