DHAKA, Sept 25, 2023 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said, from the existing position of law, the government has nothing to do for sending BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia abroad for further treatment.
"I have said it earlier, I am saying it again. Begum Khaleda Zia was released on conditions from jail because of the magnanimity of Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina). It was done by keeping her sentence stayed under section 401 (1) of The Code of Criminal Procedure. Now if we want to bring any change at this stage of the law. We have to cancel her conditional release and take the matter to the earlier position. At this existing position of law, government has nothing to do," the law minister said.
Anisul Huq came up with the observations while replying question of newsmen at the secretariat this noon.
Answering a question on demand raised by BNP leaders for releasing their chairperson under a declaration of the UN, the law minister further said alongside that, it was also mentioned there that the law of the concerned country will get priority and as per our law and existing position of the law, we cannot bring any change in this regard.
"We have rule of law in our country. We respect the judgment of the court. The court has sentenced her and she was released on conditions through an executive order. At this stage of the law, we have nothing more to do," he added.
The law minister meanwhile, hoped that with the formulation of Cyber Security Act, the mistakes and misuse of Digital Security Act, will go away, adding, "We also hope that there will be no mistakes in implementing this act."
