DHAKA, Oct 14, 2023 (BSS) - Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today underscored the need for maintaining impartiality while discharging duty as a field-level officials during the upcoming national election.
"The field-level officials should discharge their duties with impartiality as well as utmost sincerity during the upcoming parliamentary election," he said.
The CEC said this at a management programme related to the roles of divisional commissioners, deputy inspectors general of police, police commissioners, deputy commissioners, superintendents of police and regional election officers at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in city's Agargaon area as the chief guest on the occasion of the upcoming 12th general election.
Election Commissioners Brig Gen Md Ahsan Habib Khan (Retd), Rashida Sultana, Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman and Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Md Jahangir Alam and senior officials of the Secretariat were present, among others.
The CEC called upon all local officials to act responsibly as they will represent the government in polls.
Noting that organizing election is a challenging task, he advised the officials concerned to be dedicated during the polling time so that the election gains acceptance among the people.
It is essential to demonstrate to the people that the election has been conducted fairly, he said, adding that if franchising the voting rights of the voters is ensured, the polls will be successful, he hoped.
About the role of law enforcement agencies, CEC Awal said it is their responsibility to maintain communal harmony before and after polls.
Pointing to the officials, Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan asked all to avoid past criticisms as success could be attained through learning from the past.
He urged all to play collective roles to set an example of conducting a free and fair election for future generations.
Describing the field-level officials as the loyal assistants of the Election Commission, he asked them to cooperate sincerely with the returning officers during the polling time to make the Election Commission proud.
