DHAKA, Oct 29, 2023 (BSS)-Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman today said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has taken to the police custody to interrogate into yesterday’s killing, attacks on the police, innocent people and setting fire to government and private properties and establishments.
Police has already arrested two members of the BNP who were directly involved in the killing of the police constable, he told the journalists after joining the namaz-e-janaja of constable Amirul Islam Parvez at SI Shiru Mia auditorium of Rajarbagh Police Lines.
“Police constable Parvez was brutally killed by a section of BNP terrorists while some political parties were holding programmes in the capital yesterday,” the Commissioner added.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman and leaders of Police Service Association paid homage to the coffin of Parvez by placing floral wreaths after namaz-e-janaja.
Habibur Rahman said Shamim Reza, convener of Palashbari Poura Swechchasebok Dal from Gaibandha and Md Sultan from Demra area in connection with killing constable Parvez have been arrested so far.
“Interrogation revealed that both of them were directly involved in BNP politics. They were seen in the procession at various times,” the DMP chief added.
He said that during the BNP’s rally at least 113 policemen were injured, of them another police man is at life risk, adding, “The DMP will do everything whatever it needs for ensuring justice against the brutal killing of police constable.
The two were arrested after collecting and analyzing of the CCTV footage of the incident and interrogation will be continued.”
“We will bring all to book whoever is involved in this incident and who have instigated them. At that time all central leaders of the party were present.
Several attacks were taken places, the official residence of the Chief Justice was also attacked by breaking the gate,” the DMP commissioner added.
Describing the brutal killing of constable Parvez, he said how a policeman was beaten and killed brutally, even after killing him they confirmed his death by kicking several times, the Commissioner further added.
“It is not only an insult to him, but also an insult to the entire police force,” Habibur Rahman said.
He said the BNP carried out the terrorist attacks and created anarchic situation in the name of its programme.
