DHAKA, Nov 5, 2023 (BSS) - Vehicular movement in the city was almost normal on the first day of BNP-Jamaat's second phase of nationwide blockade starting the early hours of today.
 
Different modes of transport, including buses, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, private cars, motorcycles, minibuses, and rickshaws, were seen plying across the city as usual, facilitating the commuters with normal traffic situation.
 
All public transport were seen carrying passengers at full capacity, akin to other working days, as law enforcement agencies remained alert to ensure security for people.
 
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials, 27 platoons of BGB members have been deployed in Dhaka and its adjacent districts to maintain law and order amid the blockade while more 10 platoons of the paramilitary force members remain standby.
 
Apart from passenger-carrying vehicles, goods-laden trucks and cargos were seen operating in different parts of the capital.
 
It was observed that a large number of vehicles were plying along the Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mymensingh and other highways connecting other parts of the country with the capital Dhaka.
 
Though the first day of the blockade marked sporadic incidents of setting public transport on fire and vandalism in different parts of the country, the commuters were seen traveling around the city without facing any hindrance.
 
On Saturday, Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity decided to run buses and minibuses on Dhaka city and inter-district routes during the BNP-Jamaat's 48-hour nationwide blockade.
