18 different modes of vehicle torched during BNP’s two-day hartal

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2023 (BSS)-The miscreants have been set fire on 18 vehicles across the country including the capital during the 48 hours hartal enforced by BNP-Jammat since Sunday.

“The Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense have received information of fire incidents at 16 spots during last 33 hours till 9am today, the second day of the two-day hartal”, said Talha Bin Jashim, officer (Media cell) at the Fire Service and Civil Defense Head Quarters here.

Of the 16 fire incidents, three incidents took place in city, one in Dhaka division, seven in Natore, Bogura and Sirajganj under Rajshahi division, four in Chattogram division and the rest one took place in Mymensingh division.

A total of nine buses, one covered van, six trucks, one CNG driven auto-rickshaw and three coaches of a train have been torched during the time.

A total of 144 fire fighters and 29 units of the fire service department were involved to disperse the fire.

Fire service sources added, the miscreants have set fire on a passenger bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) at 2.35pm today at Mirpur section-10.

 Two fire fighting units rushed to the spot immediately at 2.46pm to extinguish the fire, but no causalities were happened during the incident.

Fire incident took place after a cocktail explosion on a CNG-run auto rickshaw at 8.30am at Kazi Alauddin road in Bangabazar on Sunday (Nov19).

  A passenger bus was also torched in front of Jatrabari police station at 9.58pm last night, a bus was torched in front of Anowar Khan Modern Hospital at Dhanmondi in the city at 8.25pm yesterday and a truck also was torched at Tongi Mirer Bazar in Gazipur on the same night of Sunday.

In addition to this, three coaches of a intercity train was torched at Sharishabari at 1.20am on Sunday (Nov 19), a truck was torched at 1.30 am in Bogura, a covered van was burnt at Lalpur in Feni at 1.40am at night , fire was set on a bus at Mohipal in Feni.

Fire incident was taken place on a bus at Bhabaniganj in Natore at 3.20am on Sunday (Nov 19), fire set on a bus at Godhagari in Rajshahi during the night on the same day, two trucks were torched at Nandigram area in Bogura on the same day and a bus was torched at Puthia in Rajshahi during the hartal.

Even a truck was burnt at Kamarkhand in Sirajganj at 12.42am today, three buses were torched at Satkania in Chattogram at 4.05 am at the same night and the miscreants also set fire on a truck at Mireshwary in Chattogram at 4.45 am during that night.
 
According to Fire service statistics, a total 195 vehicles including 118 buses, 26 trucks, 13 covered vans, eight motorbikes, three micro buses, three pick-up vans, three CNG run auto-rickshaws, three legunas (human haulers), two private cars, three trains, an ambulance, a nosiman (human hauler), a fire service truck and a police patrol jeep were set ablaze across the country since October 28 rally of BNP.
 
Five people including two fire-fighters, as well, sustained burn injuries in the fire incidents.
