DHAKA, Dec 14, 2023 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today assumed that the United States (US) is highly disappointed with the BNP after seeing arson attacks and terrorists acts committed by the party.
“I guess, America is not satisfied what BNP has done (terrorist acts), because America doesn’t like arson attacks, terrorist acts,” he told reporters while responding to a question after attending an event at North South University in the capital.

Momen said that the US believes in democracy, but they did not see a democratic mindset from the BNP.

In contrast, the foreign ministry said that Awami League believes in democracy. “We have no mental distance from the US,” he added.

Responding to a question whether Bangladesh is under any external pressure, Momen said, “No! We are not under any pressure from the outside world, rather we are under pressure by our own as we want to hold a free, fair and acceptable election.”

He said the Awami League government is committed to hold a free and fair poll while the external world is playing a supportive role in this regard.

“They (external world) want to see a free and fair election, to make the election violence free. We also want the same,” he said.

Momen said the Awaji League believes in people and their verdict. “We want people to go to polling centers to cast their votes in big numbers. These are our challenges,” he added.

Earlier, he spoke in a seminar titled “Energizing Bangladesh's Youth Workforce for Global Success.”

On Tuesday, the foreign minister termed Dhaka-Washington relationship “sweet” saying there was no tension over the bilateral ties between the two countries.

He said the USA give us suggestions on different matters time to time as Washington treats Dhaka as one of its ally but “when any of their suggestions don’t seem not realistic to us, we don’t accept and they (the US) don’t mind”.
