Sheikh Hasina to begin AL's polls campaign from Sylhet tomorrow

SYLHET, Dec 19, 2023 (BSS) - Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally kick off the party's campaign for the forthcoming national polls at a grand public rally to be held in the holy city of Sylhet tomorrow.

She will formally launch the election campaign after offering ziarat at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R) in the morning as the party, which led the country's 1971 Liberation War, traditionally begins its parliamentary election campaign from Sylhet. 

Marking the visit of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina, massive enthusiasm and festivity have been prevailing among the people of entire Sylhet region as the city wore a festive look with illumination and decoration following the electoral code of conduct.

The rally venue Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground has been readied as a massive boat shaped stage was erected. 

Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak visited the venue ahead of the rally today and said a different kind of enthusiasm has been prevailing among the people of Sylhet division.

From tomorrow's grand rally in Sylhet, the AL's polls campaign will formally begin across the country, he said.

Sylhet mayor Md Anwarzumman Chowdhury said the people of Sylhet are ready to welcome Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina with respect and love.

"We are ready to work as per the directives to be given by Bangabandhu's daughter" he said. 

Talking to BSS, Sylhet district AL president Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury hoped tomorrow's rally will be a massive one as around one million people is expected to join it.

Leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies as well as people of all strata will join the rally from every upzila and districts of the Sylhet division.

Sylhet city AL vice-president Asad Uddin Ahmed said the leader and workers at grassroots in Sylhet are eagerly waiting to listen to the speech of Sheikh Hasina.
 
Sylhet district and city units of AL will arrange the rally.
