BIMSTEC, Nippon Foundation hail Sheikh Hasina on reappointment as PM

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2024 (BSS) - Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and the Nippon Foundation have congratulated Sheikh Hasina for her re-appointment as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
 
BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey, in a greeting letter to the Prime Minister, said that on behalf of the Secretariat of BIMSTEC and on his own behalf, "I have the honor to convey my heartiest congratulations to your re-appointment to the office of the Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh for the fourth consecutive term".
 
He said, "As one of the founding members of the BIMSTEC, Bangladesh, under your leadership, has been playing an important role in expanding regional cooperation within the framework of BIMSTEC."
 
The Secretary General observed that the leadership of Bangladesh will remain critical for achieving the BIMSTEC's vision of building a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable Bay of Bengal region.
 
"I am confident that under your able leadership, Bangladesh will continue to contribute to BIMSTEC achieving new heights in the coming years and transforming itself into a vibrant regional Organization," he added.
 
As the Secretary General of BIMSTEC, he said that he is looking forward to seeking valuable guidance and advice from Sheikh Hasina.
 
In another message, Nippon Foundation Chairman Yohei Sasakawa congratulated the Bangladesh Awami League for the victory in the recent general election.
 
At the same time, Yohei Sasakawa extended his sincere respect for Sheikh Hasina's dedication to the further development of Bangladesh
 
Furthermore, he said, "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude that you were so willing to lead the Second National Leprosy Conference under Your Excellency's presence last November amidst your busy schedule."
 
He said that over the past few years, the global leprosy programs have faced stagnation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
"However, the hosting of the national leprosy conference in your country not only serves as an opportunity to strengthen leprosy programs within your nation but also, I am confident, will reinforce leprosy programs worldwide, using your country as a successful model," he added.
 
The Nippon Foundation Chairman concluded, saying "I remain committed to providing comprehensive support for your country's endeavors."
