DHAKA, Jan 24, 2024 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the labour amendment bill will be passed in the next session of the parliament.

"The bill will definitely be floated in the next session and will surely be passed," the minister said while replying a question of a newsman.

Earlier, the law minister held a meeting with the officials of the Ministry of Labour and Employment at his office.

Labour and Employment Secretary Md Ehsan-E-Elahi, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwer, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary (Routine Charge) Dr Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury and other senior officials were present at the meeting.

"The meeting of International Labour Organization (ILO) governing body would be held in March. So, we held a meeting today here to review the works regarding amendment to labour bill, progresses about labour rights and development of labourers' work environment. I would first brief the Prime Minister about these, only then I can talk to you in this regard," Anisul told journalists.

Replying a question on whether any decision has been made to lower trade union threshold in labour sector to 10 percent, the law minister said, "We have also discussed the matter at the meeting. We have brought a change as per the previous direction of the Prime Minister and would soon brief her to this end."

Anisul further said the decision which would come after the meeting between the labourers and the employers in this regard, would be appropriate for the circumstances of the country.

"The government under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in last 11 years has brought radical changes in labourers' work environment and made huge progress. In spite of these, people, especially the foreigners', who are talking about this, should consider the scenario of 2003-2005 and the present one," he added.
