DHAKA, Feb 15, 2023 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today praised the initiative of publishing a souvenir on the occasion of the 82nd birth anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist with international repute and the premier's late husband Dr M A Wazed Miah, to be celebrated in a befitting manner in the country tomorrow.
"I welcome the initiative of Scientist M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library (Biggyani MA Wazed Miah Smrity Pathagar) to publish the souvenir 'Batighar' on his birth anniversary," she said, in a message.
On February 16 in 1942, Wazed Miah affectionately called 'Sudha Miah' was born in a respectable Muslim family of Laldighi Fatehpur village under Pirganj upazila in Rangpur district.
Issuing the message on the eve of the birth anniversary of Dr M A Wazed Miah, the premier said that he spent every moment of his working life for the welfare of the country.
The main theme of his mindset was to ensure overall welfare of Bangladesh till the moment before his death, she said, adding that he was always vocal against the oppression of Pakistanis.
M A Wazed Miah also had a special contribution in the Great War of Liberation, she said, adding that this humble and self-less person who has no greed of holding power is therefore remembered with respect by all forever.
In order to preserve the memory of M A Wazed Miah, some of his beloved book-lovers established Dr M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library in 2014, she continued.
Sheikh Hasina hoped the Scientist Dr M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library will expand its activities across the country and deliver books to every reader's doorstep.
Besides, it will play a special role in building an enlightened society and the Sonar Bangladesh cum Smart Bangladesh as dreamt by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"I wish all the success of M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library," the premier added.
