DHAKA, April 6, 2024 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said this year's Eid journey is comfortable like the previous year despite pressure of traffic.
"There is pressure of traffic, but no traffic congestion on highways this time," he told reporters at the meeting room of his ministry at the secretariat here.
Earlier, the minister opened one railway overpass, seven road overpasses and two bridges on Tangail-Rangpur highway from his office.
Quader said one railway overpass of 550 meters at Tinmatha rail gate in Bogura, 56-meter long Datiya Bridge, 32-meter long Fatki Bridge, 39-meter long Mulibari overpass, 39-meter Panchila overpass, 35-meter Datpur overpass, 158-meter B-block Cangtonment overpass in Bogura, 178-meter Fultola overpass, 30-meter Dhaperhat overpass in Rangpur and 8-meter Mirzapur overpass opened to traffic from today.
He said those overpasses are the Eid gifts of Prime Minister to the people.
The minister also inaugurated the activities of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) of all toll plazas on Dhaka-Chattogram national highways.
Replying to a query over recent attacks in hilly areas, Quader said investigation is going on and everything will be disclosed. Joint drive is going on in those areas and the situation will be under controlled, he said.
Terming the attacks as distracted incidents, the AL leader said the ethnic group is residing in Bandarban area, not in Rangamati or Khagrachari.
He hoped that the situation will be under controlled soon.
Road Transport and Highways Division secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and senior officials were present in the programme.
