DHAKA, April 28, 2028 (BSS) - The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has advised farmers to harvest their boro paddy after 80 percent maturity in haor region to save those from potential damage of heavy rainfall.
The DAE came up with the advisory by issuing an emergency notification sent to the media today.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many places in north-east haor region of Bangladesh (Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Kishoreganj, Brahmanbaria and Netrokono) from May 3 next.
In such situation, the following suggestions have been given to the famers to ensure mature crops from the adverse impacts of heavy rainfall in the haor region:
1. When boro paddy gets 80 percent mature, collect those quickly and keep in a safe and dry place.
2. Harvest vegetables that become mature.
3. Keep the drains clean so that rainwater does not accumulate in the paddy field.
4. Raise the boundary line of cropland.
5. Take measures to remove excess water from cropland.
6. Avoid using of irrigation, fertilizers and pesticides.
7. Use insecticide after rainfall.
8. Arrange poles for bananas and other horticultural crops and vegetables.
