DHAKA, May 22, 2024 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today greeted the countrymen and the Buddhist community people on the holy Buddha Purnima as the largest religious festival of the Buddhist community is being observed across the country.

"Buddha Purnima is not only a remarkable day for the Buddhist community, but it also has a significance and importance to the people of other religions", he said in a greeting message on the holy festival.

Buddha Purnima is a holy religious festival related to the birth and attaining supreme enlightenment and great passing away (Mohaporinirvana) of Gautam Buddha, he said.

"The life and philosophy of the Gautam Buddha usually motivate us to become a great man which is also an inspiration for us to overcome greed, hatred and lust. It (Buddha's life and philosophy) also teaches us to explore the way out of the crisis in a peaceful mind", he added.

The message of the Gautam Buddha is very much vital to make human life meaningful, the minister continued.

Quader said ideals and philosophy of Buddha can play an important role in establishing peace in society, removing unrest and intolerance from the world and saving people from moral degradation.
