18 wards under two city corporations at high risk of dengue: survey

DHAKA, May 28, 2024 (BSS) - Eighteen wards under two city corporations of Dhaka are at high risk of dengue, according to a survey released here today.

The survey was conducted jointly by the two city corporations of Dhaka and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) between April 17 and 26.
 
While presenting the survey at the DGHS today (May 28), Prof Sheikh Daud Adnan, line director Communicable Disease Control of DGHS said 18 wards are at high risk of spread of dengue disease as all indexes of the outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease are very high compared to the other wards of the two city corporation.

"The wards of Dhaka North City Corporation which are at risk include - 12, 13, 20, 36, 31, 32, 17 and 33. The vulnerable wards of Dhaka South City Corporation are - 4, 13, 52, 54, 16, 3, 5, 15, 17 and 23," Prof Adnan added.

The survey showed high density of Aedes larvae were found in 29 wards of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 12 wards in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
