BOGURA, June 26, 2024 (BSS) - Police arrested four death row convicts in 14 minutes after they escaped from the district prison on Tuesday night.
"Around 3:56 am last night, the four capital punishment awardees made a hole on the roof of the condemned cell of the jail and escaped climbing over the wall with the help of their bed sheets," Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudip Kumar Chakraborty said.
Being informed by Bogura Jail Superintendent Anwar Hossain, police immediately surrounded one kilometer area around the Jail with a security ring, he said at a press conference at SP office this morning.
"A few minutes later, SI Khorshed Alam arrested them from Chashi Bazar area," Chakraborty said.
The death row convict arrestees are- Nazrul Islam, 68, Md Amir Hamza, 41, Md Zakaria, 34, and Md Farid Sheikh, 30.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saiful Islam confirmed the incident, saying: "A six member probe-committee has been formed to investigate the matter."
