DHAKA, July 17, 2024 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested seven including former Chhatra Dal President Kazi Rawnakul Islam Sraban and recovered arms and explosives conducting an overnight drive at BNP’s central office in city’s Nayapaltan area.
“The DB recovered more than 100 cocktails, 5-6 bottles of petrol, 500 bamboo sticks and seven local and foreign weapons”, said DB chief Mohammad Harun-Ar Rashid at a press conference following the drive led by him.
DB also has arrested seven including former Chhatra Dal President Kazi Rawnakul Islam Sraban while many of them managed to flee after sensing the presence of the police, he said.
Violating the apex court order, he also said a vested group were chanting anti-government slogan, torching vehicles, damaging rail-slippers and blocking metro-rail movement after taking position at different places.
The detective police drive came as some of BNP activists were being involved in trying to deteriorate the law and order situation through supplying sticks and arms to the quota protesters, Harun said.
“Not only giving money and weapons but also providing rumors, the quota movement is also being tried to take into different aspects,” said the DB chief, adding, “We will be able to arrest those who were being involved with ill politics by taking the benefit of the recent quota reform movement.”
