HC rejects writ against law enforcing agencies' firing on protesters


 
DHAKA, August 4, 2024 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) has rejected a writ
petition pleading for the court's direction against law enforcement agencies
using live rounds against protesters.
 
"This application is summarily rejected with observation," said the order
passed by the High Court Division Bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and
Justice S M Masud Hossain Dolon today.
 
"The court in its observation said citizens have the right to participate in
peaceful procession, assembly, and public meetings as per law and our
constitution. Police, however, can take steps in line with CrPC and Police
Regulations, Bengal (PRB) if violence, disorder, and chaos are created from
any meeting or processions," Attorney General AM Amin Uddin said quoting the
court observations.
 
Barrister Sara Hossain, Advocate ZI Khan Panna, Barrister Anik R Haque, and
petitioner Advocate Manzur Al Matin argued for the plea before the court
while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Additional Attorney Generals SM Munir,
Sheikh Md Morshed and Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury took part in the hearing for the
state.
