DHAKA, Aug 08, 2024 (BSS) – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said he is hopeful about Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus’s success in leading the interim government.

“He is nominated by the anti-discrimination students and us. We have given him the responsibility on behalf of the whole nation. We are hopeful that he would be able to fulfil the desire and hope of the people of the country through his able and successful leadership,” he said.

The BNP secretary general came up with the observations while talking to newsmen at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) here this afternoon.

He visited the hospital to see those taking treatment there being injured in shooting by law enforcement agencies.

“The main problem in the country is lack of democracy and the main task of the interim government is to bring that back. The sooner they would be able to bring back the democracy, the more success they would be able to attain,” he added.

Replying a question on his expectation from the interim government, Mirza Fakhrul said at first the new authority has to restore the law and order, adding, “Secondly, they have to bring back the democratic government system by holding elections soon. Thirdly, they have to take every step possible to keep the economy going.”

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) president Prof Harun Al Rashid and BNP’s health affairs secretary Rafikul Islam, among others, were present on the occasion.
