DHAKA, Aug 25, 2024 (BSS) - Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Commerce Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today said the United States (US) will soon enhance support for Bangladesh to develop the agriculture sector.
"We have no debt with the US. All the helps, they gave us, are grants. That's why I told them to help more. They will soon help the agriculture sector. And in some cases, they will send high level teams. The teams will discuss. But who will come, they didn't tell now," he said.
The finance adviser said this while talking with reporters after a meeting with Charge d'affairs of the US Embassy in Dhaka Helen LaFave at the Finance Ministry in the city.
During the meeting, Salehuddin said, he urged the US to invest more in the country's different sectors, including agriculture, energy and climate.
"The US is very important to us. Economically, they are very important. The US has a big investment in the coastal region of Bangladesh. The US is helping us in different areas, including the agriculture sector. The main thing is that I have talked about investing more in agriculture, energy, climate and other sectors," he said.
He said they have also discussed what can be done to develop the country's technical sector.
"I have given special focus on the flood. We also discussed on the private sector, especially Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)," he added.
