DHAKA, Aug 26, 2024 (BSS) - Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen today said that Beijing is willing to continue support according to Bangladesh's needs to help mitigating disaster and reconstruction efforts.

"We believe that under the leadership of the interim government, the people of Bangladesh will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes soon," he said.

The envoy made the remark during his meeting with Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Professor Dr. M.U. Kabir Chowdhury, at the latter's headquarters here and donated US$ 100,000 on behalf of the Red Cross Society of China to assist flood victims in Bangladesh.

During the donation ceremony, Ambassador Yao observed that Bangladesh has been suffering from a devastating flood, resulting in enormous loss of lives and properties.

The Chinese government and people are deeply concerned and empathize with the people of Bangladesh, he said.

As a country that also frequently suffers from natural disasters, the envoy said, China extends its sincere sympathies to the interim government and the people of Bangladesh.

"Though disasters are ruthless, people are compassionate. In the face of the floods, the Red Cross Society of China promptly provided humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh," said the envoy.

The Chinese Ambassador said his country is keen to further consolidate and deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Bangladesh.
 
On Sunday, Ambassador Yao, during a meeting with Chief Advisor Professional Dr Yunus donated $20,000 to the "Chief Advisor's Relief and Welfare Fund" to support Bangladesh's flood relief efforts.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh donated food, drinking water, and other relief supplies worth Taka 6 million to the severely affected city of Feni to help the local victims through this difficult time, according to a press release issued by the Chinese embassy here.
 
Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh continue to actively donate money and supplies, fulfilling their social responsibilities.

As of August 25, Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh have donated over Taka 4.13 million to the flood-affected areas and provided supplies worth about Taka 6.19 million, totaling approximately Taka 10.32 million.

Donations and contributions are still ongoing, said the Chinese Embassy.
