DHAKA, Aug 27, 2024 (BSS) - Poly Khatun, a transgender of Rajshahi city, graced hundreds lives of identical communities as she has changed her fate through diligent works and resolute will-power. She touched the success through crave and dedication.
Poly made her debut as an entrepreneur by setting up 'DA Fashion House' at her own house in Mollapara in the city in 2016. She started with the capital of only Taka eight thousands as her income now stood at about one lakh per month.
She launched her business along with other 25 fellow transgender people while more than four hundreds of identical communities are working under Poly's supervision now.
They are making different types of hand-made sarees, three-piece, bed sheets and cushion covers and the products are being sold at different places of the country. Even, those products are being sold abroad.
Poly said the path was not so easy for people's uncooperative behaviours and conservative minds. "But, I'm always positive and tried to start anything through my honesty and hard-work," she added.
Now, Poly appeared to be a role model of encouragement to the transgender people and even all of the women in the northern city of the country.
She was adorned with 'Joyeeta Award' in 2017 in reorganization of her works. She also achieved 'Joy Bangla Youth Award' in 2021 for her contribution to developing the socio-economic conditions of the transgender people along with a lot of other achievements.
She is now busy with her business and other social development works. She works on preventing Aids in Rajshahi. She also works on development of the livelihood of transgender and making them self-dependent through establishing an organization 'Diner Alo Hizra Sangha'.
Poly also gives trainings on appliqués and boutiques to local women and transgender people who already became self-dependent and even many women started seeing new dream of living.
The beginning of her life was very painful and she fought for leading life in every moment. She is elder among her three brothers and sisters. Everyone understood her gender identity just after the birth.
Her father not only denied her (Poly), he also declined her mother to accept. But there was no lake of her mother's affection. Finally, her father accepts them. But, he subjected Poly to enduring repression and her mother had to face subjugation in every moment. Even, she didn't get any new dress in any festival like Eid though her other siblings got new dresses.
She passed SSC exams in 2012 though her education life was not so easy. Even, her father didn't pay any penny to run her education. Her mother used to pay expenses of her education.
A local organization 'Bandhu Social Welfare Society' stood beside her in 2015 and gave trainings and financial assistant which bestowed on her a new life.
She said, "I make design myself on sarees and three-piece. I also do the works of appliqués and boutiques on those sarees and three-piece. In the beginning, I sold my products at local markets. Later, the range of my business has increased gradually".
"And now, we are making 700 three-piece and 50-piece sarees from my fashion house in every month. Every three-piece is being sold at Taka 2500 to Taka 3000, one piece at Taka 700 to 1000 and two-piece at Taka 1500 to Taka 2200. Every piece saree is being sold at Taka 2500 to 3500. And now my monthly income is about Taka 1.5 lakh."
