DHAKA, Sept 4, 2024 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Advisor to the Interim government Nahid Islam today said a new independent Bangladesh has been achieved following sacrifices made by students and people.

“We have achieved a new independent Bangladesh as a result of sacrifices made by the student and people”, he said as he met family members of martyred college student Shafique Uddin Ahmed Ahnaf at his Paikpara residence in Mirpur here. Ahnaf was killed during the recent student-people uprising.

The advisor said, “We had to take charge in the interim government formed at the cost of bloods of those students.”

He said during the mass uprising thousands of students and general masses came out from their houses and took to the streets and due to their sacrifices we got a new sovereign Bangladesh.

In this connection, he said a memorial meeting will be held soon in presence of family members of the martyred. He wished presence of the martyred family members in the meeting.

Recalling the supreme sacrifices of the students during the movement, Nahid said those, who have sacrificed their lives during the movement would be remembered by the nation forever.

He informed that the interim government will prepare a list of the martyred people as huge unnamed people and student have sacrificed their lives during this movement. A total of 800 martyred have been identified so far, he added.

“We are alive due to the martyrs …even I can speak freely for their sacrifices,” he said.
Besides, the information advisor inquired about the studies of Ahnaf’s younger brother and assured to stand besides Ahnaf’s family members in time of need.

Ahnaf’s parents, two brothers and other family members were present on the occasion.

A 17 years old Ahnaf, an intermediate level student of BAF Shahin College, was shot dead by the police during the Anti-Discrimination Movement on August 4 at Mipur-10.
