DHAKA, Sept 5, 2024 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today said the interim government is pledge-bound to improve the livelihood of the countrymen.

"The people of Bangladesh want changes. They want to end corruption, injustice and indiscrimination in the name of development. And the interim government is working relentlessly to fulfill the expectations of the countrymen," he said.

The adviser said this when a four-member delegation of JICA led by its Bangladesh chief representative Ichiguchi Tomohide paid a courtesy call on him at his office here, said a press release.

Fouzul, also the adviser for power, energy and mineral resources, said the interim government has decided to cancel controversial section 34 (ka) of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act (BERC) and introduce an open tender. 

During the meeting, the adviser sought JAICA's financial and technical cooperation for reopening the two affected metro train stations and in different sectors, including road, bridge, rail and power.

Tomohide congratulated the interim government and said JICA is always interested to work in the development of livelihood of the people of Bangladesh.

Praising the role of the interim government, Tomohide said JICA is one of the development partners of Bangladesh and they want to ensure transparency and environmental safety.

The JICA chief representative sought cooperation of the government to complete their ongoing projects in Bangladesh.

Road Transport and Highways Division senior secretary Md Ehsanul Haque, Power Division senior secretary Md Habibur Rahman, Bridges Division senior secretary Md Manzur Hassain, Railways secretary Abdul Baki, among others, were present.
