Bangladesh to follow regular procedure for UNGA Sideline Meetings: Foreign Adviser

DHAKA, Sept 8, 2024 (BSS)- Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today stated that Bangladesh will adhere to standard protocol regarding any sideline bilateral meetings during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

"We will proceed according to the established regular procedure," he told reporters at the foreign ministry when asked about the possibility of a meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.


He clarified that such meetings are not arranged far in advance but follow a systematic process.

 "It's not something we request a month ahead, there's a process to follow," he clarified.

Hossain also noted that there is no certainty that Indian Prime Minister Modi will attend the UNGA.

Regarding the Chief Adviser's delegation, Hossain mentioned that it will be small, comprising not more than 10-12 persons.

 "I will be accompanying the Chief Adviser," he confirmed.

The Chief Adviser is expected to arrive in New York on September 22 and return to Dhaka on September 29.

The 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79) will begin on September 10 (Tuesday), 2024 with the high-level General Debate set to commence on September 24.
