DHAKA, Sept 10, 2024 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam today asked all the police units in a written order to take prompt and tougher action against terrorism, militancy and communalism.

"We would take stern action against terrorists, militants and the people involved in ruining country's communal harmony," he said.

The police chief said Bangladesh is a shining example of communal harmony.

"The stance of the police is steadfast against the people responsible for damaging communal harmony regardless of religions and Bangladesh police is highly committed to response quickly in case of any such incidents," he said.

Mainul reminded all about Bangladesh's "zero tolerance" policy against militancy and terrorism, saying that specialised police units such as anti-terrorism, counter terrorism and transnational crime (CTTC), special branch (SB), criminal investigation department (CID), Rapid Action battalion (RAB) alongside district police have been working constantly to check terrorism and militancy.

The police headquarters have been monitoring the matter with topmost priority, he said.

Police are now on hot pursuit so that the terrorism and militancy cannot rise again in the country, he said.

The IGP continued that police have been put on high alert as the militants who were released from the jails on bail, cannot engage them in any criminal acts.
