DHAKA, Sept 26, 2024 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam today said they have no intelligence information on any specific threat ahead of the Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community.

"We have no information of any specific threat (centering the Durga Puja). But the police would be on maximum alert with no compromise on the security," he said.

He was replying to a question after emerging from a seminar titled ‘Environmental Sustainability in Tourism: Responsibility of Police’ organized by the Tourist Police at its Tourist Police Headquarters here.

Speaking at the seminar, Mainul said that the tourist police have been working relentlessly to attract local and foreign tourists for boosting the country’s tourism industry by ensuring security accordingly.

He said the tourist police have been working in collaboration with the tourism department, public-private tour operators, local public and NGOs to ensure sustainable environment in the country.

The IGP urged the tourist police to carry out duties in coordination with the forest and environment department to prevent environmental damage.
