Depression ‘DANA’ intensifies into cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2024 (BSS) – The Deep Depression over East central Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved West-Northwestwards and intensified into a Cyclonic Storm "DANA" over the same area, said a latest storm warning center bulletin here today.

The cyclonic storm was centered at 06 AM today (23 October 2024) about 695 kms Wesl-Southwest of Chattogram port, 620 kms West-Southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 695 kms South-Southeast of Mongla Port and 645 kms South-Southeast of Payra port.

It is likely to move West-Northwesterly direction and intensify further.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the Cyclone center is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the Cyclone center.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant cautionary signal,no. one but instead hoist distant warning signal no. two (R) two.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, so that they can take shelter within a short notice.
