DHAKA, Nov 6, 2024 (BSS)- Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said the interim government hopes that the existing relations between Bangladesh and the USA will reach a new height during the tenure of newly elected US President Donald Trump.
"We welcome this (his win). We hope Bangladesh-US relations will deepen and the relations will reach a new height," he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here this evening.
Alam said Bangladesh has already had a good relation with the USA and it has turned into a different dimension after the August revolution in Bangladesh.
Mentioning that the USA always wants democracy around the world, he said the USA is observing that the Bangladesh’s interim government is working to reach out the country to a democratic transition from the 15-year autocratic regime and that is why the US has enhanced its works with Bangladesh.
“We hope the Bangladesh-US relations will deepen during the presidency of Donald Trump. You know Prof Yunus has good relations with both Democratic Party and Republican Party. He has personal friendship with many top leaders of both the parties,” the press secretary said.
Responding to a question on Trump’s recent remarks on Bangladesh, Alam said he was probably misinformed.
Donald Trump won a sweeping victory in the US presidential election Wednesday, defeating Kamala Harris in a stunning political comeback.
Replying to another query, Alam said the government is considering formation of a new commission on education aiming to bring reform in the country’s education sector.
Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were present.
