DHAKA, Nov 07, 2024 (BSS) - British High Commissioner in Dhaka Sarah Cooke today paid a courtesy call on Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed at his office in the Supreme Court here.
The British envoy, during the meeting, lauded different initiatives take by the chief justice recently to institutionalize the freedom of judiciary.
She hoped that the strong leadership of the chief justice will play an important role in ensuring justice and establishing good governance in the country.
Sarah Cooke further hoped that the initiatives like establishing a separate secretariat for the judiciary, formulating a policy on transfer and appointment of judges of subordinate courts and establishing independent commission to appoint High Court judges will play an effective role in modernizing the judiciary.
She expressed interest in working with Bangladesh on various bilateral issues related to the judiciary.
Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed apprised the UK High Commissioner about his commitment to establish the rule of law in Bangladesh, assuring that Bangladesh's judiciary is determined to protect human rights.
He also emphasized on the mutual cooperation between the both countries in the modernization of the judiciary of Bangladesh.
