Council of advisers approves draft of ICT ordinance with several others

DHAKA, Nov 20, 2024 (BSS)- The Council of Advisers in principal approved the draft of the Bangladesh Law Officers (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 aimed at ensuring the existing attorney service stronger.

The approval was given at a meeting of the Council of Advisers at Bangladesh Secretariat here today with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair, a release of the Cabinet Division said.

The Ordinance has been frame bringing necessary amendment to the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972 with a view to appoint competent and efficient law officers immediately as the parliament is dissolved.

The council of advisers also approved in principal the draft of the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024 and the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

The meeting also scrapped the ‘Quick Enhancement of Electricity and Energy Supply (Special Provision) Act, 2010 (Amendment 2021)’ and given final approval to the draft of the law subject to the vetting of the law ministry.

The council of advisers in principal approved the proposal for observing of International Migrants Day and National Expatriates’ Day together.

Now the International Migrants Day is observed on December 18 while the National Expatriates’ Day is celebrated on December 30. The council of advisers decided to celebrate the two days jointly on December 18.

In today’s meeting, the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General informed the council of advisers about expenditure of Taka 1,261.05 crore spent by various departments from fiscal year 2018 to 2024 to celebrate the Mujib Barsha. The council of advisers cancelled all budget in this regard from 2024-2025 fiscal year, the cabinet division press release said.
