DHAKA, Dec 06, 2024 (BSS) – Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Rajshahi University Law Alumni Association (RULAA) conference today called for ensuring justice for all.
“Lawyers are the front-line defenders of the constitution. They represent the voiceless, they play a crucial role in establishing justice and truth. Lawyers act as a bridge between the judiciary and the public,” he said while addressing the conference as the chief guest at Shaheed Safiur Rahman Auditorium at the Supreme Court this afternoon.
Highlighting the tradition of Rajshahi University's Faculty of Law, the chief justice said the alumni are continuing to serve the public and contribute to establishing justice in Bangladesh.
“We are recalling the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs of the War of Liberation, who laid the foundation stone of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh through their valour. We are paying our tributes to the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising, whose supreme sacrifices have ushered in a new Bangladesh. They cried for the justice,” he added.
Reiterating his commitment to strengthening the judiciary, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed said he has already declared a roadmap for reform in this regard, adding, “We have to strengthen the independence of the judiciary. I have announced a process to establish a separate secretariat for the judiciary, which is an important step to ensure the administrative autonomy of the judiciary. I have also proposed to the government to form a judicial appointment council to institutionalize transparency and competence in the appointment process of Supreme Court judges.”
