Tarique Rahman for ensuring accountability from UP chairmen to PM

FARIDPUR, Dec 7, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today underscored the need for bringing all elected public representatives from UP chairmen to head of the government and government employees under accountability.

"During the previous Awami League government, there was no accountability in the country. The people of the country were deprived of their voting rights during their regime of more than a decade and a half," he said.

Tarique Rahman was addressing a divisional training workshop for party men on '31-point for repairing the state structure and public engagement' at Faridpur Sadar Upazila Complex auditorium, joining it on virtual platform from London. BNP's training affairs committee organized the workshop.

"No matter who they are, they all have to be accountable to the people. As there was no accountability during the regime of Awami League, their leaders and activists were able to launder money abroad,” he said.

“We want to build a corruption-free, terrorism-free Bangladesh, and create a health sector so that no one has to go abroad for treatment,” he said.

Tarique Rahman urged the party men to work for gaining people's trust and confidence.

He said BNP is a political party and as a political party it is natural that BNP will want elections.

“We want a free, fair and beautiful election, where people will exercise their voting rights without fear,” he said.

Noting that now many people and organizations are talking about reforms, BNP acting chairman said BNP’s 31-point state reform proposals clearly mentioned reforms in all sectors and at all levels.

“Maybe it is not possible to do everything at once, but it is possible to implement everything in phases,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said BNP wants no one to be the prime minister in the country for more than two consecutive terms. He also demanded enacting a law in this regard.

He urged the participants of the workshop to reach the lessons they learned today to leaders and activists at grassroots and common people.

About 400 leaders from Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Madaripur districts participated in the workshop organized at Faridpur Sadar Upazila Parishad hall room.

BNP's Organizing Secretary (Faridpur Division) Shama Obaid presided over the workshop while party chairperson's adviser Ismail Zabiullah, assistant organizing secretary Selimuzzaman Selim, Khandaker Masukur Rahman, Krishak Dal Central Committee General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul, Mohila Dal Joint General Secretary Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, Central Training Affairs Committee leaders Dr. Mahadi Amin, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon and Faridpur District BNP Convener Syed Modarrech Ali Icha also spoke.
