DHAKA, Dec 8, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh is interested to enhance relations with India, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shfiqul Alam said today.

"We have linguistic, historic and cultural linkages with India. We, of course, want to reach our relations in a better position with India to benefit both the people," he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening. 

Alam, however, said the Bangladesh-India relations should be based on equity, fairness and dignity. India is a big neighbour of Bangladesh while it shares many rivers with India, he said.

About the issues to be highlighted at Bangladesh-India Foreign Secretary meet to be held in Dhaka, the press secretary said all issues related to mutual interest will be discussed during the meeting.

Amid strained ties and growing criticisms from both sides on post-August five issues, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is coming to Bangladesh tomorrow (Monday) to hold several meetings apart from attending the foreign secretary-level talks to address mutual concerns.

Replying to a query at the briefing, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir said the uneven agreements signed between Bangladesh and India during the ousted Awami League regime will be discussed in the future.

Responding to another query, Shafiqul Alam said if fake news is spread against vulnerable people and Bangladesh sovereignty is hit in any way, the issue will be taken into the account of Meta.

Replying to another query over disinformation being spread by the Indian media, he said the interim government is repeatedly asking the Indian journalists to visit Bangladesh to report from the ground.

"Our invitation to all...visit here and produce reports from the ground," he added.
