DHAKA, Dec 12, 2024 (BSS) - The nation will observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day on Saturday (December 14), paying glowing tributes to the intellectuals who were brutally killed by the Pakistan occupation forces and their local collaborators at the fag end of the country's Liberation War in 1971.
Elaborate programs have been chalked out to mark the day, said an official release here today.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus will place wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur around 7:05 am and 7:06 am respectively.
Live telecasts of the prorgrammes will be aired on Bangladesh Television and other private channels.
On the day, family members of the victims, along with veteran freedom fighters and wounded ones led by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam will place homage at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at 7:22 am and Rayer Bazar killing ground (Baddhobhumi) at 8:30 am.
Besides, people of all strata, including various political and social organizations, will also place homage at the memorial from 8:30 am, the release added.
On the eve of the day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Dr Muhammad Yunus will issue separate messages.
Discussion meetings will also be held at the district and upazila levels, highlighting the significance of the day.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and other private channels will also broadcast special programmes, commemorating the day.
Special munajat and prayers will also be held at all the mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and other worship places.
The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has requested all not to use loudspeakers in the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial area to uphold the sacredness of the day.
