DHAKA, Dec 13, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged all to remain united to resist any attempt of fascist Sheikh Hasina to come to power again.
"We must maintain unity to resist fascist Sheikh Hasina. Because she is still active and she wants to come back to power again. So we have to be vigilant so that she cannot come back," he said.
The BNP Secretary General came with the call at a discussion organized by BNP marking Martyred Intellectuals Day at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital today.
Fakhrul Islam said, "We are going through an tough transitional period. The fascists have destroyed all the systems of the country. So we have to keep patience."
Over the last 15 years, the dictator has publicized a distorted history, he said adding that they destroyed the nation's freedom of thought and conscience to establish a dictatorship.
“There is still a trend to put 71 behind,” he said adding it’s another conspiracy to distort history.
"We have to remain vigilant so that none can distort history again," he added.
Urging party leaders and workers to be more active on social media, he said, "We need to pursue merit-based politics as the student and people dislodged the fascist Sheikh Hasina in just two months by being active on social media."
He hoped that the interim government would create an ideal environment for the people of the country so that they can elect public representatives.
Paying tribute to the martyred intellectuals, the BNP Secretary General said, "Do not forget that the best sons of the nation who were captured and brutally killed by the Pakistani occupation forces through the local Al-Badr force."
The fascist government also created 'Aynaghar', committed many incidences of forced disappearing and killing political opponents, he said.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, BNP Standing Committee Member and former minister Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said that fascist Sheikh Hasina is hatching conspiracies against the country staying abroad.
The people have faced such conspiracies in the past, he said, adding that the conspirators thought that the interim government was weak. But reality is that it’s enjoying support of all parties, he said.
Mosharraf Hossain said that the ongoing state reforms will not be completed within the specific timeframe as it is an ongoing process.
"In the future, the elected government will implement it remaining tasks of reform," he said, people will be affected if elections is delayed for reforms.
He urged the government to give a roadmap for the elections alongside reforms.
"If the people are election-oriented, no conspiracy will work,' he added.
Regarding the killing of martyred intellectuals, he said, two days before the final victory, when the Pakistani invaders sensed that they would have to leave this country, they killed teachers, poets, writers, journalists, and engineers of this country through the Al-Badr force.
“Young generation should know this history of the nation, he said adding that post-independence government failed to uphold the true spirit of the country's Liberation War.
It established a one-party system Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BAKSAL) putting country's democracy, independence, and sovereignty under threat, he said.
BNP National Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP Vice-chairman Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, BNP Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed and Begum Selima Rahman and party’s Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie also spoke, on the occasion.
