DHAKA, Jan 6, 2025 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said the Detective Branch (DB) of police has been asked not to arrest anyone in civil dress, reiterating that there will be no Aynaghar or Bhater Hotel in the force.
 
"DB personnel have to wear their jackets and show their identity cards while arresting anyone. They can't do anything beyond the law," he said.

The home adviser was speaking to journalists after visiting the DB office located at Mintoo Road here.
 
In replying to a question, he said, "There will be no Aynaghar [torture cell] or Bhater Hotel [eatery] in the DB."
 
Calling upon the journalists to write if anyone does anything going beyond the law, the home adviser said, "If I do anything wrong, journalists must write on it."
 
He said they recruited sub-inspectors and constables in the police force in a transparent manner.
 
Replying to another query about the demonstration of the sacked sub-inspectors, Jahangir said they have been removed from their jobs due to a breach of discipline in the police training academy.

Their activities have proved that they have gone against the discipline, as they are demonstrating on the streets instead of lodging an application to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), he said.
 
He continued that it would not be possible to bring them to the jobs as they have been sacked for breaching discipline.
 
Asked about the situation along the Bangladesh and Myanmar border, he said they are completely aware of maintaining peace in the Bangladesh frontier along the Myanmar border.
 
"Our border is completely in our control," he said.
 
About abduction in Teknaf, he said that all the kidnapped victims have already been rescued.
 
He said the law enforcement agencies have been asked to deal with the drug trading in Teknaf as the drug traders are still active in the area, though infamous drug smuggler Bodi is in police custody.

About the torture of 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals in Libya after abduction, the home adviser said, "If any victim comes to us with an allegation, we will take legal action against the culprits."

Replying to another query, Jahangir said they held a meeting with the DB on how to develop the law and order situation across the country.

He said the law and order situation has improved a lot, but there is still a scope for further improvement.
 
About the increase of snatching, he said that many muggers have been arrested in the last week.
