DHAKA, Jan 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Immigration and Passports has cancelled the passports of 97 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, due to their alleged involvement in enforced disappearances and the July killings.

“The Passports Department cancelled passports of 22 people involved in enforced disappearances while passports of 75 people, including Sheikh Hasina, were revoked due to their involvement in the July killings,” Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told a press briefing. 

The press briefing was held at the Foreign Service Academy here this evening.

Azad, however, did not reveal the names of remaining people whose passports were cancelled.

CA’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also spoke at the briefing.

About the national elections, Alam referred to what Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus said earlier.

While addressing the nation on December 16, 2024, Prof Yunus said the next general election can be held in between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026 after accomplishing necessary reforms.

"Broadly speaking, the election date can be set between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026," he said.
