EC to hold free, fair, credible polls: CEC

SYLHET, Jan 9, 2025(BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin today said the Election Commission (EC) is working earnestly to hold a free, fair and acceptable election.

"It is not our job to support any party, group or individual. Our goal is to present  a free, fair and acceptable election before the nation," he said while speaking at a workshop titled 'Challenges and Ways to Overcome the Voter Registration Process' organized by the Election Commission Secretariat's Capacity Building Project on the Use of ICT in the Election Process in Moulvibazar.

CEC urged EC officials participated in the workshop to refrain from any kind of biasness centring the upcoming elections.

"No partiality will be allowed in the upcoming elections. There is no reason to fear. Stern legal action will be taken against those who work in favour of somebody," he said.

He said, "A fair and impartial election depends on the election officials. Therefore, you must work properly and obey the laws. If you work properly, we will be able to hold an acceptable    election."

Sylhet Regional Election Officer Mohammad Nurul Alam presided over the workshop while Election Commission Secretariat Joint Secretary Md Moin Uddin Khan, Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz, Project Director Muhammad Mustafa Hasan, Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Md Israel Hossain and District Election Officer Nasir Uddin Patwari also spoke on the occasion.

Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila Election Officer Md Emdadul Haque and Bishwanath Upazila Election Officer of Sylhet Swarnali Chakraborty jointly moderated the programme.
