DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) – The interim government has so far facilitated advanced medical treatment abroad for 11 individuals injured during the July-August student-led mass uprising while arrangements are underway to send another 28 injured persons for similar care.

“So far, 11 injured individuals have been sent abroad for treatment, and among them, two have already recovered and returned to Bangladesh. The process for ensuring advanced medical treatment for 28 others is currently underway,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said during the ministry's weekly media briefing today.

Among the 28 individuals, Alam noted that expedited visa issuance for eight critically injured individuals and four of their family members was ensured between January 1- 8 through close coordination with foreign missions in Dhaka.

A comprehensive initiative has been implemented to ensure advanced medical care for those injured during the 2024 uprising, he said. 

The spokesperson said this effort involves collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Bangladeshi missions abroad, and foreign missions based in Bangladesh.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prioritized visa processing, maintaining close communication with relevant foreign missions in Dhaka, which have extended their full cooperation,” Alam added.

Under the initiative, the Ministry of Health has provided the required medical details, financial support, and documentation, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has worked to facilitate the injured individuals' advanced treatment abroad.

“The combined efforts of Bangladesh’s foreign missions and embassies in Dhaka have significantly accelerated the process,” Alam emphasized.

He reiterated that the foreign ministry and concerned Bangladeshi missions abroad are treating this matter with the highest priority, ensuring seamless coordination to provide maximum support.
