DHAKA, Jan 12, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today sent to jail Armed Police Battalion (APBn) constable Mohammad Sujan, who was seen shooting at a student-people rally in capital's Chankharpul area on August 5.
"The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, showing him arrested in a case filled for crimes against humanity," prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud told BSS.
The tribunal also set February 23 for submitting the probe report in the case.
On January 1, the ICT ordered the authorities concerned to produce Sujon before the tribunal today.
Prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud said the accused constable was in jail after getting arrested in a case filed with the Shahbagh Police Station.
"Constable Mohammad Sujan was seen shooting from his Chinese rifle aiming at the protesters near Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College in the capital's Chankharpul area on August 5. Video footage of Sujan’s firing and expressing joy after hitting protesters became viral on social media platforms. We filed screengrabs of those footages before the tribunal today," the prosecutor added.
Chief prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam and prosecutors Md Mizanul Islam, Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar, and MH Tamim were present in the courtroom during the hearing.
The APBn handed Sujan over to the Detective Branch on September 13. Shahbagh police later took Sujan into custody in connection with a murder case filed over the police station.
